SEG has also led a programme to create a Standard for Eel Sustainability that goes over and above the requirements of the recovery programme and so if adopted will dramatically reduce wastefully fishing mortalities and enable the consumer to buy, eat and enjoy eel sourced from a SEG approved supply chain.
The Standard was developed during 2010, the pilots during early 2011. Widespread consultation took place including with the conservation link group.
The standard and assessment process is managed by a sub group with in SEG. Feedback and comments are always welcome.
